Olfactory family

Primary: Fruity

Secondary: Sweet · Jammy · Floral

Olfactory profile

Sweet and immediately recognisable as raspberry — jammy and slightly cooked rather than fresh-picked. Underneath the fruit there is a soft floral-rosy undertone and a faint phenolic warmth that keeps the material from reading as purely confectionery. It has moderate volatility and sits mainly in the heart, holding a steady line. Solid at room temperature, so it must be dissolved before it can be dosed accurately.

Character

Sweet, warm and rounded. Moderate intensity and diffusion — a supporting material rather than a lead.

Nature of the material

Chemical name4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butan-2-one
Nature of materialAroma chemical of natural origin
Botanical sourceNot documented for this lot — on request

Raspberry ketone occurs naturally in raspberries at very low concentration. Materials sold as “natural” are obtained either by extraction or by bioconversion from a natural precursor. Both routes are accepted as natural under EU flavour legislation, but they are not identical, and the distinction can matter for a natural-certified brief.

Origin

Trade designation: Natural Raspberry Ketone

Documented origin: Germany — country of manufacture

Manufacturer: Axxence Aromatic GmbH.

We are confirming with the manufacturer whether this lot is produced by extraction or by bioconversion. We will not state which until it is confirmed in writing. If your brief depends on that distinction, please ask before ordering.

Use in perfumery

Position: Heart note · modifier

The reference material for raspberry effects. Used in fruity and gourmand accords, and at low level as a modifier to give a rose or a floral heart a jammy facet. Dissolve in a compatible solvent or in part of the formula before weighing — dosing the solid accurately is impractical.

Effect in composition

Adds sweetness and a fruity roundness. Reinforces the jammy side of a rose, softens sharp green materials, and increases the perceived richness of a gourmand base.

Blends well with

Olfactory affinities — not a statement of shared sourcing.

  • Rose Bulgaria Absolute — the classical rose-raspberry pairing
  • Blackcurrant Bud Absolute — layered berry structures
  • Mimosa Absolue Naturelle — honeyed fruity-floral
  • Iris Concrete — powdery-fruity contrast
  • Cistus / Ciste Épuré Absolute — dried-fruit amber base

Perfumer’s perspective

Straightforward and dependable — the fastest route to a credible berry facet without building one from esters. Its value is highest in rose work, where a fraction of a percent shifts a classical rose towards something contemporary. The unresolved production route is the only reason to hesitate, and only if you are working to a certified natural brief.
